What is Modern Art to me as a Contemporary  Artist

The first thought that pops into my head is: “Thinking outside of the Box”, this phrase represents art without walls, no need of Galleries or Museums: example, Chihuly -Glass in the Gardens.  Then you have the painters of light, sorry I can’t remember their names, then you have the digital  painters. As a modern painter I place myself as a Modern Traditionalist, I still use some form of paint placed on a canvas or panel to express my thoughts and ideas and because of this I am old school.

I find most of these outside of the box artist to live in the dream time, not knowing of the past or the future.  To me they are memory artist and no, they are not living in the moment. My work of art is physical, something you can touch, hold, take with you or hang on a wall. It is a piece of me, it is my thoughts and feelings of each changing Season, from childhood to death.  It tells the story of the journey of an artist, from Black & White to Color.

If Time measures our existence, then what validates the continuance of time.

The most natural occurrence that surrounds our lives everyday and demonstrates and reveals the passage of time, is the change of seasons.  The most outstanding element that makes this natural phenomenon unique is the wide spectrum of color each season embodies.  Every painting that is rendered in each collection is influenced by the natural laws of color and uses a palette highly diverse in colors, that represent the cycle of time. The knowledge of color and a skilled craftsman adapted specific techniques and a wide range of mediums to render these works of art.  Undoubtedly, when these specific paintings are in your presence, it reminds of our existence on this planet, that we are here and we count.

BLACK, WHITE & COLOR

Date started on 2012 and on going.

The primary design in this series of paintings are executed with black ink or black epoxy resign, on a white wood panel and then finished with a gouache wash overlay.  The colors are intended to maintain a flat finish instead of a glossy one and yet project the purity of the colors intensity.  I choose a Designers Gouache to achieve this look, also the technique gives a different approach to the traditional water color rendering.

The hues are precise color mixes that combines and organizes the colors not only as color harmony in Art, but to stimulate the esthetic feeling of the paintings.

To this date,2013, there are 6- 24in.x36in Paintings on wood panel.

“A Rose for direct democracy”

The Rose represents the need to unite spirit and science, love and knowledge.  It also symbolizes Joseph Beuys, who was a graphic artist, installation artist, art theorist and much more, his idea of revolution: a gradual organic blossoming from within. This was the inspiration for this particular work of Art.

“Women of 2011”, A Statement of Fashion and Personality

We express ourselves everyday, as simple by the cloths we choose to wear.  Just like language and different symbols articulate how we communicated with each other, fashion is significant to our culture and personality.

This series of paintings entitled, “ Women of 2011” was inspired by the world of fashion.  The color schemes encompass  the four seasons of nature, also the transgression from youth to adulthood, with the  specific personality  traits of a romantic, casual, sporty, modern, elegant and sophisticated self.  When two or more figures are visible in the painting, this represents multiple personality traits.  Example: the women of  the autumn season can be natural, solitary, chic or can be of different ethnic backgrounds, like Japanese or American.
